Well as many of you know the download limit in the BlackBerry Browser is only 2.3MB which makes a lot of users mad/upset/angry/all of the above? lol They usually have to resort to downloading Opera Mini and download files that way or if you’re lucky enough to get in on the Skyfire action, you can also download large files via that. Well I have the solution for you and no longer will you need an extra browser just to download large files, I have used the BlackBerry Browser to download files in size from 30MB to 600MB and I have proof here:
This is ~30MB file

This is ~130MB file

This is ~600MB file

I have used Rapidshare and Megaupload to get links and they work just fine.

Ok, enough with the pictures and time for the explanation, RIM sets your download limit by setting it’s WAP and “Internet” Browser to a specific port and thus not letting you download anything above that port limit. Well one night I happened to “stumble” upon something that caught my eye and I jumped on it, needless to say it was a nice “find” by doing this work around it uses another RIM port with no limit and turns your phone into a “real” browser per se…I would get into the port explanation and mumbo jumbo, but the little I have written is probably already over everyones head, so I just left out of much of the technical stuff out
I have been testing and using different OS and devices to make sure this would work for EVERYONE and I’ve verified it does indeed work, I’ve even tested on OS 5.0.0.191 and works like a champ.
Ok, fine fine here is what you do…go to options…advanced…service book…QWERTY users hold ALT and type SBEB, Storm users this will be ALT 4?2? and for SureType, umm I forget but ill solve it. You should get message that says “Legacy SB Restore Enabled”

Now open DM go to backup/restore…advanced…open the .ipd linked HERE
On the left hand box go to file open…select the .ipd file open it and send it to device hit ok, unplug the device now to to your phone browser go to options…general properties and you should now have new option for “NET Browser” set that and start browsing and downloading
Your first download you will get an agreement thing from RIM saying they aren’t responsible for any third party things you download, just hit “I Agree”

If you found this useful, please DONATE or at least leave a comment or something. These write-ups take time and what not and a lot of the time I don’t even get feedback if it worked or not or thanks.
“If I have helped you, help me”
P.S. If you’re email addresses are gone just go to Options…..Advanced…HRT and reregister, might not take the first time, but takes a minute or two to happen. If you ask for help about this, I will not help you as I JUST posted the fix.
Also MMS will probably not work, go into service books, delete the MMS service books and login to BIS Site and resend them. All will be well again.

Nice work Omie. Would like to see more of the technical side since I am interested in it.
For VZW you may want to add that you will need to delete the MMS settings and then push all your service books back to the device. I had to do this on 3 tours I tested this on and also a curve. All running stock OS firmware from VZW.
I’ve ever download another .ipd file for my Blackberry browser. So now I can using Blackberry browser without BIS.
If I using this .ipd file, is this .ipd file will replace my recent .ipd ? so I need select “browser” in my Blackberry.
But I think this is great.
Thanks you

i tried this and changed the browser configuration and general properties to NET Browser. It doesn’t work and the following appear when i open the browser: “unable to connect to the internet, please try again later”. How do i get it to work?
Great site, how do I subscribe?
Hi , i followed all the steps, downloaded the file, loaded it on my blackberry using desktop manager, then i change the option to NET BROWSER and SAVED IT… now when i open a website or try to open a download from rapidshar it gives me the following message “A communication failure has occurred. The server maybe busy, please try again later.if the problem presists contact your service provider” and as soon as i change the option to INTERNET BROWSER this problem goes away! i didn not get the last screen to AGREE tough :/

Hi. I got this to work but now all my email is gone. I can receive emails but i cant send out. Please help!!!
I cant send emails, receive or send MMS now…
tried this and was billed by my service provider for call charges when I was browsinf from my bold. NET browser did not appear on my bill as data charges but my call charges trippled… can it be fixed so that my carrier does not bill me for this
thanks for quick response
I still had the message when I installed it on my BB 9000 Bold, I didn’t get an Agree/Disagree notification and things relating to MMS were deleted. I was able to restore the service book entries from an earlier backup though.
Will this work on my Storm with 5.0.0.328 on it? Does anybody know if it will?
Great work thank
great work thanks
Hmm the email missing problem is easily fixed after re-register my email again and not forgetting to register HRT again, however my browser isn’t working after selecting ‘NET BROWSER’. It always say unable to connect to the server..Is it cause by the different rim like from t-mobile etc?
I was curious as to if anyone has got this to work on the storm running 5.0.328 also
It’s not work on my storm…
i think it stopped working. i keep geting a message upon opening “unable to connect to server” i re-downloaded and did everything over and it works now but wondering if you have run into this problem??? please let me know thanks
omie i found a new problem and cant figure out why this is happening please help. ive had this working for months now and all of a sudden if i hard reset my phone i cant use the browser anymore. i get the message unable to connect to server. to solve the problem my only option so far is to not hard reset or if i do reset to reload everything all over again. have you seen this b4 and is there a better solution. thanks
im on a bold 9000 os 5.0.314 by the way and have been for a long time so i cant figure it out
THIS WOOOOORKS…I don’t know why so many people are having problems. Follow the instructions and it should work. Don’t forget to make a backup of your BB first on Desktop Manager.
One question for you 0mie. I have tried a bunch of hosting sites from rapidshare to hotfile. They all work, EXCEPT the most important one, MEGAUPLOAD!
I cannot seems to click on either “Premium Download” or “Regular Download,” after the 45 second countdown is over. It is as if my cursor does not recognize a link and stays in “arrow mode” and not that finger icon (link).
Please help 0mie
Thanks
*IMPORTANT NOTE
like i said before, this hack does work, but there are a couple of things you should know that i’ve experienced.
- NEVER EVER cancel/interfere a download in the middle of the download process. Whenever i have done this the hack does not work the next times i want to download something. Your “NET Browser” reverts back to acting as the “Internet Browser,” giving you the 413 request too large error.
- To fix this follow all of 0mie’s instructions ALL over again, and make sure you don’t interfere with any downloads
- megaupload “premium” or “regular” links were not active even after the 45 second countdown. i was only able to click on them once i selected “column view.”
Thanks,
Anthony

Have you made any progress on the MMS issue? Or some way to revert the changes without restoring the phone?
i had issues with mms. all i had to do was delete all the MMS service books (should be 2 in some cases 3 of them). after doing that just resend your service books and it should work.
works everytime for me
i just want to clear something that, is this limit just for emails attachment viewing or for BB explorer, coz in my emails attachment 2.9 MB is the limit and where i download from internet explorer i cant download 30 and more then that from internet with out any issue and without any work you told up there..
Sorry ignore the upper comments just consider the below

@ Hadi
prove that you can download a 700mb + file on your blackberry without the patch. cause unless you’re using another browser…it cannot be done
